Digital Projection International to Supply Projectors to First-of-its-Kind Cinema Concept in India
Motion picture producer and distributor K Sera Sera has engaged Digital Projection International (DPI) as its supply partner for its ‘Miniplex’ cinema project. Similar to a multiplex but much smaller and intimate in scale, a Miniplex theatre has two screens and can seat a minimum of 75 and maximum of 125. Such a business model has never existed previously, where moviegoers can expect unprecedented levels of privacy and a high definition viewing experience at an affordable and cost- competitive price.
By the end of three years, K Sera Sera hopes to open 500 Miniplexes in urban and semi-urban locations across India. “India has 527 districts,” CEO Sanjay Gupta told India’s The Economic Times, “so we will be looking at covering 95 per cent of them.”
As part of this extensive rollout, DPI will initially supply 400 of its full HD 3-chip DLP (Digital Light ProcessingTM) projectors from its Highlite range. “The Highlite range offers high light output with all the benefits of a 3-chip DLP projection system at a price associated with a high end single-chip DLP system,” said DPI sales and marketing director Nick Cottiss. The supply of the projectors also represents “the first project in India where full HD equipment can be deployed because of the rigorous attention to cost of ownership in the projectors design,” continued Cottiss.
According to K Sera Sera’s corporate website, the first phase will involve the opening of eight Miniplex theatres in eight Indian cities. DPI’s projectors, which are capable of delivering 1920 x 1080 resolution, will help realise K Sera Sera’s goal “to bring technically advanced viewing to the masses in India”.
In January this year, K Sera Sera opened its first Miniplex in Ahmedabad. Back then, the project systems supplier was still under wraps, but with DPI now officially on board, Gupta said “we are very much looking forward to working with Digital Projection today and in the future.”

C-nario Messenger Selected as Digital Signage Platform for Mumbai International Airport
Mumbai International Airport’s Terminal 1C that caters to domestic traffic has recently opened — and also in place is a newly-installed digital signage display, distribution and management software platform.
Making this happen was Times Innovative Media Limited (TIML), part of the limes of India group. In its capacity as the exclusive advertising rights holder for Mumbai International Airport and Delhi International Airport, among others, TIML selected C-nario as the technological platform provider.
TIML will utilise the company’s C-nario Messenger to deliver a range of content to passengers in “key areas of the airports including check-in, arrivals, departures, security hold area and others,” said Aman Nanda, senior vice president, corporate strategy and strategic acquisitions, TIML. Overall, ten 47-inch LCD screens will be located throughout the terminal.
TIML aims to offer information that includes RSS-based news headlines, astrology forecasts, weather reports for selected cities, as well as ‘live’ TV and advertisements. C-nario’s platform also enables advertisers to upload and approve ads via the web.
“Today, an increasing number of airports understand the advantages and benefits of digital signage, including high-resolution pixel-perfect content in a multi-display, multi- channel environment, capturing the attention of passengers and delivering useful information,” said YaeI Elstein, VP marketing, C-nario.
Based on open architecture for optimal customisation and adaptation, C-nario Messenger provides better than-broadcast quality playback in any shape, size and resolution. The system also offers advanced management, monitoring as well as control and content creation tools. Integration on the premises was managed by Apseco Systems & Software, a Mumbai-based company specialising in audio-visual solutions, services and installations.
India Infoline Headquarters Enjoys Seamless AV Operations
India Infoline Ltd. (IIFL), which offers a spectrum of financial services in India, is one of the leading players in the retail broking and insurance distribution arena. Based in Mumbai, IIFL’s corporate headquarters at Raghuvanshi Mill Compound, Lower Parel, oversees the group’s over 600 branch offices located across the country.
IIFL recently assigned V-TECH to furnish its new headquarters with a complete AV solution. The challenges of the overall implementation included a short completion time as well as proper coordination with project architect Della Tecnica and other agencies. V-TECH subsequently proposed a user-friendly system that would meet IIFL’s requirements namely in its boardroom, conference room, training room, the respective cabins for the MD and CEO, as well as the cafeteria.
IIFL’s boardroom, which can seat 19 personnel from senior executives to clients, are also used for conducting video conferencing sessions and presentations. The Polycom HDX 7000, which displays content and data in HD, was selected as the video conferencing system. Dual monitors were needed to display the far end video and the content view application, and to achieve this, two Samsung LED screens were placed to the far left and far right of the camera.
Nine Beyerdynamic MPC 22 boundary microphones were installed on the table with a prominent push button that enables the VC camera to be zoomed towards the speaker. The current status of the camera position is identified by the button’s either red or green LED colour.
For digital signal processing and audio routing, Biamp Nexia TC was selected and accompanied by Crown XLS amplifier and six units of JBL ceiling speakers. Laptop presentations are supported by the NEC NP61O 3,500-lumens projector which was mounted on the ceiling with high-gain Remaco 100-inch motorised screen.
In addition, Kramer’s VPL 4x4 model, which is a VGA-audio matrix switcher, serves as the hub for all VGA signal inputs which provide output to the four displays including the projector, LED screen and video conferencing system. Crestron CLS-6, along with DIN 8SW8, control the light load and the mortised curtain. Crestron MC2W Integrated Wireless Control System controls various electronic and electrical devices, while the SmarTouch ST1700C wireless touch panel produces high-resolution screen quality. The conference room, which also has a 19-seat capacity, will be used mainly by back-office staff as well as the marketing team. Here, the AV dynamics are about the same, save for the table microphone and LED screens. V-TECH designed a mid-level solution that mirrored the boardroom’s closely; however, the Extron MPS 112 media presentation switcher is used instead to switch between multiple VGA, S-video and composite video signals.
The MD and CEO’s cabins also required a video conferencing and control system via the lP network. The Polycom HDX 7000 was the go- to choice again, accompanied by a 55-inch Samsung LED screen. V-TECH recommended the sleek and stylish Crestron TPMC 4X as the control application while lighting control is covered by Crestron CLS-6.
IIFL’s training rooms are a vital part of the environment for grooming the organisation’s new recruits. As some training sessions are conducted via ‘live’ video conferencing, this called for an effective and economical AV solution, which V-TECH proposed in the Polycom VSX 6000 with the far end displayed on the 100-inch diagonal screen. Also installed were the NEC NP 610 projector and audio speakers which were mounted on the ceiling, while a label microphone was also provided for voice amplification. IIFL’s headquarters also have two additional training rooms with basic AV installations and which are used daily with no operational glitches.
Despite the various rooms that enlisted different bills of material, V-TECH was able to successfully complete the IIFL project within the stipulated time.
Delhi International Airport’s T3 Benefits from Belden’s Structured Cabling System
Belden, a provider of cable, wireless signal, industrial networking and other transmission solutions, announced that its IBDN structured cabling system has been successfully installed in Terminal 3 of New Delhi International Airport Private Limited (DIAL).
Work in the world’s sixth-largest terminal commenced in January 2009 and was completed in April this year. The completed cabling infrastructure enables DIAL to fully integrate a number of legacy IT systems and optimises operational speed, performance and control.
IBM Global Business Services was the appointed systems integrator for the project and it selected Belden as its support partner for the design and implementation. Both parties worked closely to identify DIAL’s key requirements for limited down time, location tracking, flexibility (with easy add/remove), and improved maintenance for its significant LAN setup. The ensuing solution is copper Cat6 and single mode fibre cabling with Intelligence Physical Layer Management Solution (IPLMS) software that will monitor, control and maintain the networks infrastructure over the long term.
“The IPLMS is ideal for airports because it assists us in planning, managed implementation, control and efficiency to the physical layer to all of our tenants — airlines, duty-free shops, immigration, and customs,” said Sivaram Tadepalli, DIAL’s chief IT officer.
“Managing large and complex projects of this kind requires unique technical and service capabilities, and we look forward to leveraging these Belden strengths for DIAL, along with all of our customers in India,” concluded Naresh Kumra, executive vice president for Belden’s Asia Pacific operations.
V-TECH Furnishes TIBCO Software India with AV Office Solution
Thanks to V-TECH Technologies, TIBCO staff members now have an improved workspace, primarily to conduct video conferences as well as meetings.
TIBCO is a business integration and process management software company headquartered in California which has offices worldwide, including India. TIBCO Software India has branches in Mumbai and Pune, a city in southwest India’s Maharashtra state.
V-TECH, a residential and office automation systems integrator and consultant in India, provided the comprehensive AV solution to TIBCO’s office in Pune, at the Sai Radhe Complex. Outfitting works were focused on the video conferencing room as well as two meeting rooms,
Two 42-inch 42LF 2OFR LCD displays from LG were installed in the video conferencing room which can seat eight personnel. For communicating to multi locations with HD clarity, TIBCO’s video conferencing room utilises a video communications system, the LifesizeTeam 220. Besides camera support, digital input and output connections as well as an embedded 4-way full HD multi-point control unit, the system’s built-in telephone analogue line allows the user to conduct an audio conference with the same microphone.
However, TIBCO did not want the video conference unit to be at a fixed station as they want the flexibility of transporting it to other rooms when the need arises; further, they preferred to keep the unit in storage when not in use. To meet that requirement, V-TECH introduced a trolley intended to move the equipment anywhere within the office. The trolley has additional space for camera placement and also allows the codec to be connected to a separate Quad BRI module.
Completing the video conferencing room is an 84-inch motorised screen and an Epson 1725 multimedia projector, which can deliver 3,000 ANSI lumens and offers 1024 x 768 resolution. The projector was mounted with the aid of a ceiling kit and is remote-controlled; the motorised lift is operated via a switch. These same product specifications and equipment were likewise implemented in the meeting rooms.

NDS Group, which provides various technologies, applications and other end-to-end solutions to digital pay- TV operators, has its headquarters in the UK. Its Asia Pacific network has 10 offices which include NDS Services Pay TV Technology Pvt. Ltd, based in Bangalore.
Located at Salarpuria Techpoint, the Bangalore office is a key operations node that regularly hosts new and existing clients. The demo room is a place where meetings and presentations are frequently conducted, and NDS required a comprehensive multimedia system to perform exceedingly well for these functions.
Integrated Audio Visual (India) Pvt Ltd, or IAV India, was tasked with this recent project. The AV systems integrator proposed developing an environment that adheres to a standardised interface and control platform. In this way, the specifications for the demo room can be easily duplicated and adjusted in other rooms, regardless of their size and configuration. Applying the same technology and interface across the board also familiarises end users with the operations and allows them to adapt quickly.
High-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) presentations are screened on a fixed front panel screen that was permanently mounted to the wall and allows viewing from all angles. For computer presentations, a projector and display system-compatible table- mounted interfaces are used. Twelve set-top boxes with HDMI output and 14 set-top boxes that have channel video output with VGA have also been installed in the demo room, from several brands the likes of Reliance, Airtel and TATA. All set-top box outputs have been routed via the Kramer VC-66 HDMI, VP-84ETH and VS-162AVRCA. Meanwhile, interconnectivity of AV equipments is achieved via the Kramer C-HDMI/ HDMI-50, C-HDMI/HDMI-3, BC-2T, BC5X5S, WP-HDMI1M plates and cables. Also included in the demo room’s overall solution was audio reinforcement, and Kramer SPK-C0608 speakers were adopted for their functionality. These two-way, open- back round speakers are mounted to the ceiling, as according to their design. The end result is a fully-functional demo room which meets all of NDS’ crucial needs for a variety of multimedia presentations.
